About Me

I grew up fearful of birth. Even though my own mother had given birth six times, I often found myself doubting that I had the strength to go through something so demanding. But there was also a mysterious beauty about birth that left me wondering how something could be both terrifying and beautiful at the same time. At the suggestion of a friend, I did some research and attended a doula training and was shocked at what I learned: My body is literally designed for birth. I couldn't believe that I had gone through life not knowing how incredible a woman's body truly is. It was like the light switch was finally turned on. Peace and excitement and confidence overwhelmed me, and I knew I had to share this with other women who didn't yet know. So many women are thrown into their labor not knowing that they have a say in how they give birth, not knowing that some medical interventions are actually utilized more for hospital efficiency rather than for the safety or wellbeing of mama and baby. Women aren't taught about all the ways our physiology works so harmoniously during labor, and how fear is one of the biggest causes of pain. We fear what we do not know. But I promise you our bodies are so beautifully and wonderfully made, and we don't need to be afraid. I hope that you feel empowered to learn about your body, and even when some of the mystery of birth remains, I hope that you discover immense beauty. At my first birth as a doula, I was privileged to witness a newfound beauty as I finally saw this reality quite literally come to life. I saw how this woman was so intentionally designed to bring forth life. And as she did, she held within herself a poetic coupling of fierce strength and sweet tenderness. It was the birth not only of a child, but also of a mother.
